Design Futures Colour Visions at Decoration + Design 2012

These vivid images from Genty Marshall’s fourth installment of Design Futures, `Colour Visions’ at Decoration + Design just arrived and we had to share.

The popular feature area was a highlight of the Melbourne trade event as was Genty’s aural presentation for the International Industry Seminar Series in which she delved into the process and science behind why colour is such a powerful tool for the interior stylist, furniture and furnishings designer. WATCH our video chat with Genty HERE.

Colour Visions sneak preview

Johannes Itten once said, “Only those who love colour are admitted to its beauty and immanent presence. It affords utility to all, but unveils its deeper mysteries only to its devotees.”

As a self-confessed colour devotee, I’ll be summoning the full spectrum for our next edition of Design Futures – Colour Visions.

Visitors will be treated to an exclusive exhibition of Australian debuts, custom installations and leading new products as both local and international designers respond to the personal and universal phenomenon of colour.

Don’t miss Godfrey Hirst’s collaboration with New Black to produce a custom gradient floorscape in their unique Designer Jet carpet, or the Australian debut of the incredible RGB Wallpaper designs by Carnovsky in partnership with Safari Living.

Bespoke designs by Marc Pascal, North St Flowers and Rowena Martinich will also be presented alongside our select Design Futures contributors. Stay tuned for more glimpses of this Decoration+Design exclusive over the coming weeks.

Design Futures: Shifting through the Carnovsky colour spectrum…

Written by Genty Marshall of New Black Global Trends

“Having been entranced by Carnovsky’s incredible installations, it is so exciting to be able to deliver the Australian debut of these stunning designs in this one-off exclusive for Design Futures, Decoration+Design Melbourne from 19-22 July, 2012.

Thanks to the support of Safari Living, Carnovsky will be producing a custom installation of their Animalia RGB wallpaper, to be presented at the heart of this season’s feature, Colour Visions.

The work of Carnovsky is the perfect example of the new ways in which designers are challenging our understanding and appreciation of colour and light. Having been selected to show in the most prestigious trend forums across Europe in 2012, it is thrilling to now showcase their work in Australia for the first time.

In Colour Visions, these designs will appear as an enclosed room with LED lighting shifting through the colour spectrum. As the colour of the light changes, aspects of the design are revealed and recede. Within the room, a white dining setting will emphasise this relationship between transmitted and inherent colour.”

Trend Spot #6…Nendo

Oki Sato 2012. Image by New Black Global Trends

I’m not usually one to get starstruck, but meeting my design-crush Oki Sato in Paris a few months ago did seem to leave me quite monosyllabic. And who’s to blame me?

The founder of Japan’s hottest design team, Nendo, is as gorgeous as the work he creates and since discovering their designs in 2008 I’ve been following the company’s rise to fame like an obsessed teenager.

Like any fan, converting other people is half the fun so the following is a glimpse of projects from the last few years to induct the new and to celebrate with those who already know how great these guys are.
