Serving bespoke for tea…

Warm up this winter with a dose of sunshine.

This Tufts range of porcelain tableware is inspired by summer days spent in the studio. The collection of cups, bowls, eggcups and plant pots is sure to brighten up your day.

The Melbourne-based studio has been crafting the ceramic tableware and home wares by hand since 2009.

“I started experimentally making a small range of porcelain tableware in 2009,” said Ingrid. “In 2010 I set up a studio in suburban Melbourne making a range of handmade tableware for retail and hospitality.

“Work for Melbourne restaurants such as Cumulus Inc helped me establish a clientele for my custom work. My own range is sold in stockists around Australia. In 2012 I started selling my work under the Tufts® label.”

And what’s the best part about working in the interior design industry?

“I have few boundaries… I have plenty of room to experiment,” she said.

It’s this experimentation and travel that inspires her the most.

“I like to get out of the studio and look around,” she said. “I find that traveling allows me to see things in different ways.

“Observing how people live under varying circumstances is fascinating and changes how I see the things in the studio environment.”

Ingrid prefers to use locally produced porcelain for her Tufts range and her main source of material is just 20km away from her studio.

She recently launched the Daisy range of tableware – using porcelain from the throwing process recycled into slip.

“It’s playful and colorful and designed to make people happy,” she said. “Currently I am making some larger statement pieces for interiors.”

Ingrid will showcase the new Tufts Daisy range and extended range of colour Play tableware at Design:Made:Trade, a feature area of Decoration + Design Melbourne.

Ingrid adds: “I have exhibited at Design:Made:Trade for the past few years and it’s been a great platform to show new work. I love the mix of design disciplines.”

The beauty of nature inside…

A tried and tested trick to breathe new life into stuffy interiors is to bring the outdoors in.

Potted or hanging plants, cactus and succulents are a great way to add colour and interest to any space.

This is why Glamorous Fusion have been in the business for over 35 years.

Formerly known as Fortune Arts and then Global Fortune Pty Ltd, Glamorous Fusion import an extensive range of seasonal artificial botanical flowers plants and trees.

Since the year 2000, there have been major management changes, resulting in a rapid expansion of their floral business due in most part to their participation in Australia’s Trade Fair circuit including Decoration + Design.

But it is seeing their customers `skilfully finished projects’ that continues to inspire them.

“We value our customers comments,” said Glenda. “100% of our design and colour palate selection is based on their industry needs.

“We work very closely with our international market as well as incorporating them into our everyday lifestyle.”

The Glamorous Fusion artificial botanical collection is sourced from Asia and crafted from silk, satin finish, and latex (real touch) – which is their most popular.

“We are constantly working our design collection in a range of themes,” she said. “It is a never ending project with our imports.

“They are created to merge into our everyday living designs, whether it is a home, office or outdoor environment.”

Glamorous Fusion will showcase the new collection at Decoration + Design Melbourne, co-located with Furnitex.

“We are continually working toward expanding our client base and being more design-oriented so as to accommodate all our customer requests,” she said.

“We chose this event (D+D) in particular as we will be showcasing some amazing new products that will stop even the most seasoned designer in their tracks, and would love to get some feedback.”

See the range on stand AG41 during Decoration + Design from 18-21 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

Light up your room…

Inflatable and illuminated are two words we’re not used to seeing together when describing furniture. But Ludo has perfected the fusion with a seriously fashionable furniture line.

This exciting new collection will launch exclusively at Decoration + Design on stand AJ40, co-located with Furnitex, from 18-21 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

Ludo Furniture is a fantastic solution for seating at events, hotels, ‘pop-up’ stores, reception rooms as well as at home beside or in the pool.

The range is made from recycled materials and they try to use environmentally friendly products where possible. Ludo also seeks to reduce its carbon footprint as a result of limited storage and minimised weight/transport requirements.

The advantages of an inflatable product are that it’s lightweight and compact, easy to transport, easy to store as well as being a highly resistant, quality and affordable design.

Based on an inflatable TPU structure (thermoplastic polyurethane) and a textile cover, this furniture is ideal for both outdoor and indoor spaces.

Despite only launching the line in March this year, the demand within the Australian design sector has been overwhelming.

The beautifully crafted contemporary shapes offer comfort and flexibility within the casual furniture market. Ludo Furniture are also designed and made in Australia with a strong focus on high quality fabrics.

Ludo Furniture are currently working on an outdoor bean-filled range of loungers using fade and water resistant fabrics, along with a contemporary European linen interior range which they also hope to have on display at Decoration + Design.

“We believe the D+D Melbourne to be the perfect launch pad for our brand of furniture — providing visitors to our stand, exciting new concepts in design, comfort and versatility,” said Jules Gower, Ludo Furniture.

Green green brass of home

By Daisy Donnelly

Ever since Pantone declared emerald the colour of 2013, green has been growing in interiors with an abundance of lush furniture, manchester and feature walls sprouting up all over the place.

And with brass also staging a steady comeback, it’s not surprising that good old green and (tarnished) gold have been making their mark together once again.

Set against a backdrop of striking green, brass really shines and the two combine to create a timeless elegance that’s also utterly contemporary. Add a touch of brass with retro lamps, tables or a statement clock or mirror for decor that will make everyone green with envy.

3D sculptural art on canvas

At first glance this bedhead looks heavy doesn’t it? As if if were made of concrete or sandstone, but this beautiful piece is actually `sculptural art on canvas’.

The creative genius behind this innovation is Angela Sorpreso of Bellaartista Designs. Her unique 3D canvas concept has the interior design community in awe with their product range only weighing between 500gms to 6 kg.

After a solid 12 months of experimenting with different mediums, exploring and designing with all methods and ideas, Bellaartista Designs finally crafted 3D Art sculptural art on canvas.

While the artwork was originally designed for inside the home, this 3D art is suitable for alfresco and patio covered areas too.

“We are always designing and looking at anything that inspires us to develop something different and unique making the 3D Art alluring to the individual,” she said. “We have a great team who always inspire each other to develop something new and captivating, driving us to create and design continually.”

So how does it all come together?

Once an inspirational image is chosen, Bellaartista design a 2D pattern and manufacture a 3D model of the 2D Design to scale. From there, a mixture of various mediums are poured into the 3D mould, once cured this is removed and adhered on a canvas to prepare for painting and texture of the image, which brings the mould to life.

And the designs are extremely varied from contemporary stylish flower designs to seaside marine designs, French provincial/European designs, Japanese style designs, Asian-inspired designs, children’s décor designs and the contemporary stylish flower range which is extremely popular due to the signature piece the ‘Lotus Flower’. The structure of this design, with its thick leaves, is admired and owned by many.

Experience the Bellaartista Designs range on stand AB20 during Decoration + Design from 18-21 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

The elegance of French Colonial style…

Often it’s the little things that make a house a home.

The patterned pillows on the bed, the chunky knitted throw on the couch, or the vases on the mantle add welcomed distractions for the eye as you move across the room, they create warmth and bring synergy to a lackluster interior.

It’s this love for homewares and styling that led Samantha Franz to launch her own company, Colonial Franz that makes homes look beautiful, warm and welcoming.

Inspired by the elegance of the British and French Colonial style, Colonial Franz offers a beautiful collection of quality homeware pieces and designer furniture.

Colonial Franz reflects my love of classic pieces pulled together in order to create a warm and inviting look inside the home, yet offers a very sophisticated and stylish appearance at the same time,” she said.

Sam also loves being able to source and offer her customers a stylish range of products that provide a unique and fresh offering to the market.

Beautifully designed and crafted furniture as well as stylish tablescaping constantly inspires Samantha.

“I love how various objects in various sizes are pulled together in order to make a table look stylish and glamourous, and a room look beautiful,” she said.

“For furniture and cushions we mainly source linen and cotton fabrics that are durable. For homewares, we source a variety of materials in the product range in order to add various looks and textures to the range.”

Colonial Franz will return to Decoration + Design Melbourne, co-located with Furnitex, from 18-21 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

“We showcased at D + D Sydney for the first time in February and received an excellent reception from retailers and interior decorators/designers who attended the fair,” she said.

“We are excited and looking forward to showcasing our range of products to the Melbourne market.”

Visitors can expect to experience the warmth and classical style of heritage living at its very best.

Drawing outside the lines

A love for art, design and architecture led one Adelaide creative into industrial design.

With a clear image of the design aesthetic and concept in her mind, Demelza N launched her own line of quality products for inside and outside the home – QueenSo.

Based on architecture of the Adelaide 1960′s flat roof homes, BurdHaus (above) captures the modern lines of the form and combines it with the humble and nostalgic qualities of the era. Originally designed and tested as functional pieces for both you and local smaller birdlife, to enjoy in your favourite tree.

After the success of the Burdhaus – she decided something for the front yard was in order.

With the design language translating from the BurdHaus comes: the LetaHaus. Designed to Australia Post standards and with the owner in mind, this LetaHaus sees functionality and design come togther to create this beautifully crafted LetaHaus.

With her Industrial Design qualification, Demelza now has the ability to create the products she always wanted for herself and in the process, she discovered other people like them too.

“I love being part of something I am passionate about and I truly enjoy having the power to create,” she said.

Demelza has long been passionate about design with the ambition, drive and vision to introduce QueenSo’s innovative products into the market.

Inspiration comes in many forms and the creative process used in designing each of QueenSo’s pieces takes time, careful consideration and attention to detail.

“Anything and everything (is inspiration); people, architecture, places, nature and experiences,” she said.

“I am always observing and taking in my surroundings. I enjoy designing products that evoke emotion in the owner and that emit their own personality.”

Part of QueenSo’s design philosophy is to `over-engineer’.

“It is for this reason I source materials that are used in commercial projects and every day use,” she said. “I love combining natural and man-made materials together and have them side by side, as if they were ‘meant to be’.”

Demelza will showcase her QueenSo range at Design:Made:Trade, a feature of Decoration + Design from 18-21 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

“I chose this event because I gained some really positive feedback in Sydney and wanted to take this range to Melbourne – also a good excuse to visit Melbourne again,” she said. “The people and the place have a great energy.

“Having refined the designs I am comfortable that they are now ready for release. I had heard a lot about DMT and I hope this event brings about the interest from media and industry I feel these products deserve.”

And Demelza has a new special project to showcase too.

“Yes, I am so excited! The next range for QueenSo is on the way – I am moving from outside to inside the home and have some beautiful pieces of furniture coming,” she said.

“Oh, I also have another set of three post boxes on the way, which I really like too.”

Expect to see something different, something new and something memorable on the QueenSo stand during Design:Made:Trade.

Textiles for living…

It all started with a career change. After more than 20 years in the IT industry travelling the world, Kerrie Molloy made the brave move into interior design.

“I was restless and wanted to do something more fun, creative and it was quite serendipitous that I ended up in the bedding and textiles area,” she said.

“I always had a passion for beautiful bedlinen as I traveled extensively for business, and it was always a luxury to come home to my own beautiful bed.”

She quickly enlisted in the Interior Decoration & Design course at RMIT and worked for a local furniture manufacturer and retailer as an Interior Design Consultant.

Until finally she threw her experience into the launch of her own bed linen and textiles company, Her Shed.

“We moved to the Byron Bay Hinterland where I purchased a small existing brand that mainly focused on clothing and was predominately importing from Vietnam (bedding and fashion),” she said.

Kerrie has worked tirelessly since then to develop her signature label and brand, gaining a loyal customer base of retailers and decorators across the country looking for unique, quality products.

We took five with the passionate designer to chat further on her career move, design influences, and insight into the new range she’ll showcase at Decoration + Design.

What’s the best part about working in the interiors/furniture/design industry?

That it’s never boring and there is always something new and exciting happening!

I like to take a consultative approach to my business as I was a consultant/project manager in my previous life. So I love to mix and match and help my customers put different schemes together for their customers!

It’s always exciting to see how designers and decorators put Her Shed’s products into their projects!

What inspires you? How does this influence the design?

I really love researching what is happening in the industry, what the next trends are in colour, texture or pattern then transposing those into the new season’s collections. We have two ranges a year and we like to keep them interesting.

We do new quilts and throws every season and once that range is finished we chose a new direction for the next season. There is always something new and different to blend with our core range of quilts and bedlinen, like our fantastic Marcella quilts that are great for boutique hotels, bed and breakfasts or residential and display homes.

Colour, texture and pattern always feature strongly and I love layering them all together to create different themes or styles.

What kind of materials do you source for your product range? Why?

We only use natural fibres such as cotton, linen, silk, silk velvet or cotton velvet because I really don’t like sleeping in or wearing synthetic fibres.

Once you have slept in linen sheets or under a silk velvet quilt, it’s hard to go back!

Linen sheets are divine and we use Italian linen in our range which is then all hand embroidered in Vietnam in various designs. Silk quilts are special, so light but warm, they are amazing!

Are you working on any special projects/ranges/collections at the moment?

Yes! We are working on our summer season collection which will be launched at Decoration + Design. We have included some gorgeous lacquer-ware trays in beautiful contemporary colours.

You will have to visit us to see the new collection.

You are about to showcase at Decoration + Design Melbourne, why did you choose this event? What can we expect to see when visiting your stand?

I exhibited last year in Melbourne and the response was fantastic so I signed up again for this year. You will see a gorgeous new summer range bursting with colour, pattern, texture and mostly a selection that will enable you to create your own look and style!

A lesson in Pure Linen…

It seems fitting that one of the most luxurious linen imports comes from one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

St. Petersburg, Russia is the home of Marina Wiese, the proprietor of Pure Linen, Australia’s leading brand in luxury linen wares, home accessories and linen fabrics. Russia’s climate is perfectly suited to growing flax, so linen was an everyday fabric, much like cotton is in Australia.

Marina attended art school in Russia for eleven years, on top of that she has a Bachelor of Economics and studied interior design at TAFE here in Australia. It goes without saying Marina’s extensive background and passion for good design is the reason Pure Linen has seen such success both locally and internationally.

So, why linen? It seems it was destiny, or in her DNA perhaps? As a girl, Marina’s aunt would often give her exotic linen tea towels and tablecloths. As she was leaving Russia, Marina was given a 180 year-old linen handmade linen tablecloth and runner by her mother that had been handed down from her great-great-grandmother. The tablecloth has now been framed and is on display at Pure Linen’s head office.

Marina launched Pure Linen in June 2006 bringing unique, classical and contemporary products to the Australasian market. The brand specialises in napery and bed linen that people had either never seen before or thought they’d never see again.

Dealing exclusively with Russian factories, Marina has since moved on and now deals with linen manufacturers in many other European countries including Belgium, Lithuania, France and Italy.

Their entire range consists of premium European linen fabrics and readymade linens designed in Australia, in fact 40% of their ready-made linens are proudly handcrafted in Perth WA.

Our manufacturers, who include Masters of Linen members, have won awards for `Ecologically pure and safe production’ and take special care at every step to ensure that the wonderful natural qualities of flax are maintained.

Quantities and ranges of their Australian-made products increase annually. Pure Linen manufacture exclusive collections and products for retailers and also for eco-resorts, boutique hotels, up-market restaurants, cafes, bistros and event/hire companies.

Their clients have included Government House in Queensland and the Fox Studio (Sydney) where their beautiful Ladoga table linen collection was used for the filming of the Great Gatsby!

Why Pure Linen? The answer is simple.

“Firstly we love it, but also linen is natural, organic – from the amazing flax plant, eco-friendly, biodegradable and simply beautiful and stylish,” said Marina.

You can see more reasons why they’re in love with linen on their web site HERE.

Experience the Pure Linen range at Decoration + Design 18-21 July at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, co-located with Furnitex.

“Showcasing our gorgeous fabrics to Australasia’s leading interior designers, furniture manufacturers, architects and the hospitality industry members is important and there’s no place better than Exhibiting at D+D to achieve that,” said Marina.

“At D+D Melbourne 2013 we’ll be showing off some new colourful fabrics, some trendy and gorgeous new unusual textures and our traditional ‘Earth’ collection, but with some surprising new items.

“Our bed linen range has also been extended so look out for some secret new items.

“Of course we will be continuing to surprise our clients with our stylish table linen, again with some new items .. and much more.”

The art of sleep

There’s nothing quite like free-falling backwards onto freshly made bedding after a long day. It’s one of life’s simple luxuries.

Deluxe Beds have a heritage associated with some of the finest quality in bedding design and craftsmanship.

Six years ago, the boutique bedding company delivered their niche product into the market, adapting current trends to create unique products from all natural fibre materials.

“We feel natural fibres have a better quality and feel to them. In addition, they provide a high amount of natural antibacterial and antifungal qualities. They are longer lasting with a high durability.”

Deluxe Beds work closely with interior designers to create a special sanctuary in the bedroom, one that encourages the perfect night’s sleep.

“We are always sourcing new products to add to our range based on customer feedback. We are excited to introduce our custom-made bedheads as part of our new collection at Decoration + Design.

“We had a very positive experience last year at the show and felt that our product was showcased to so many people of many different industries and from all over the country.”
